1765 - Francisco de Arango y Parreño is born
Francisco de Arango y Parreño, while being celebrated for his speaking qualities and knowledge on law, was also the author of abundant works, mainly economic studies. Alexander von Humboldt said Arango y Parreño was a remarkable statesman.
Arango y Parreño stands out also for his constant care for agriculture, that was why he was appointed to the Royal Consulate of Agriculture and Commerce. At the Royal Patriotic Society, he undertook a ceaseless activity in the economic and social fields.
2000 - International Day for Biological Diversity
On December 19th 1994, the United Nations General Assembly decided to declare December 29th as International Day for Biological Diversity. In 2000, this celebration was shifted to May 22nd, the date the text of the Convention on Biological Diversity was adopted.
